The renewable power sector in India is growing rapidly and presents a chance for strong financial returns. Mytrah Energy Limited is listed working in london and is one of many largest renewable power producers in India today. Were pleased to present this paper, designed in partnership with PwC India, explaining the Indian renewables sector and highlights a number of the differences between it and also the, perhaps higher quality, markets in Europe.

Having built a 560 MW operating portfolio during the last 5yrs, Mytrah is benefitting from a few of the key differences highlighted on this paper:
1. India is short of power, and thus, new renewable capacity produces electricity for an undersupplied market.
2. Renewable capacity is faster to advertise than alternatives including coal-fired power.
3. Renewable electricity cost is similar to those of electricity off their sources.

As opposed to Europe, where renewables have generally displaced existing generation capacity and required heavy subsidies, India benefits from truly market-led alternative energy demand, without significant subsidy. Strong support from the Government of India reinforces the market industry fundamentals, setting up a dynamic market which is growing. India already has 35 GW of alternative energy capacity and intends to grow this 500% on the next six years.

What he based in the sector was surprising. India’s wind energy potential is approximately 80,000 MW; 15,000 MW has already been attached to the ground. But there was not a single large IPP [independent power producer] available. “Countries like Spain have a lot of listed wind entities, but in India it is near nil. Compare this to around 20 listed thermal companies. As well as in the following 10 years, wind as an industry include similar to 50,000 MW. That’s a mainstream number,” says Kailas.

In our opinion, India is among the most exciting power market on earth, for renewables. With 400 MW in construction today along with a pipeline exceeding 3,500 MW, we at Mytrah Energy Limited continually play an important role within the growth of renewable capacity. Develop that you will find this paper to be a useful and informative resource and will be glad to take part in further discussion.
